Hoppin’ Frog Brewing Company just won Best Double I.P.A. In America with Mean Manalishi, at the 2009 U.S. Beer Tasting Championships!! Best Double I.P.A. In America is an award that Hoppin’ Frog is thrilled to receive, because this category is so respected by the lovers of really flavorful craft beer, and is usually dominated by west coast breweries with their close proximity to the hop growers. Mean Manalishi Double I.P.A. is one of the most popular beers in the Hoppin’ Frog lineup, made even better with the addition of Columbus and Summit hops to the recipe. Summit is the newer, dwarf hop plant, picked by hand and sought-after for its superior aroma and flavor. Mean Manalishi has 8.2% abv, and an astonishing amount of hop character.
The USBTC takes a unique approach in that beers are rated using a hedonic scale indicating overall pleasure achieved from tasting the beer. Their scale incorporates aroma, flavor intensity, balance, complexity, and mouth-feel. The competition is held in multiple stages with a series of field trials, wherein judges sample beers of similar styles and select the best to advance on to subsequent rounds. Field trials are typically conducted over a one-month period in three separate locations near Boston, MA, Washington, DC, and Chicago, IL. For each beer category, the field trials continue for several rounds until the winning entries are selected.

Mean Manalishi is the BEST double IPA that I’ve ever had. It’s very hard to find in coastal Georgia. Can’t wait to try BORIS the crusher! Mean Manalishi is a hop lover’s wet dream!
